Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir (a.k.a. Miraculous Ladybug if you’re feeling pressed for time) is enjoying super success in Iberia both on and off the screen. Since launching on Disney Channel in Spain and Portugal in February 2016, the CG superhero adventure has constantly hit above-average ratings — sometimes doubling them. The show also launched on Televisio de Catalunya in September 2016.
Building on its warm TV reception, Miraculous Ladybug is proving a hit at retail as well, with all Bandai toys sold out during the Christmas season. Planeta Junior is driving the regional licensing program for the series, which is headlined by global master toy licensee Bandai (dolls, soft toys, role play), with Educa Borrás (puzzles & board games), Viving Costumes, Flexmetal (balloons) and Toim S.L. (bikes & helmets) also currently offering play products.
On the publishing side, books and activity books will continue Ladybug and Cat Noir’s adventures through Editorial Planeta (Spain) and 2020 Editora (Portugal). Panini has launched a stickers collection, Stick & Stack book and official magazine; United Label Iberica and CYP Brands are tackling the gift category.
Additional licensees taking wing with Miraculous Ladybug in the territory include Cife (arts & crafts), Hot Shots and Dekora (food), Karactermania (bags & backpacks), Stor (housewares), Airval (perfume), Nice Group (toy cosmetics), Safta (back to school; Spain), K Stationary (back to school; Portugal), Artesanía Cerdá (fashion textiles & hair accessories), Ditexmex (clothing), Madness (pyjamas) and Estamparia Adalberto (household textiles).
